Hey! What's the big idea???

Reading time about 2 minutes What's the "Big Idea" behind your product? Experienced copywriters know the value of creating a "big idea" for a campaign. It can make the difference between a campaign that explodes with sales, or one that dies on the way to the hospital. The concep...

The first secret to becoming a great direct response copywriter...

It has nothing to do with what kind of formal education or degree you have. It also doesn't matter whether you're a man or a woman... old or young ... fat or skinny... white, black, brown, blue or green. On top of that, it doesn't matter if you can write with perfect grammar or not. Your talent for ...

Billion Dollar Split Test - Case Study

So the other week I posted a direct response mail piece from a satellite internet company. I called out that piece for being poorly targeted with the offer - If you're interested you can see it here in this other post Why is this direct mail piece a failure? But this time I have something better to ...

Re: Up selling: Additional translated copy

I'm a little confused by your inquiry. Ideally an up-sell is closely related to the initial purchase, in product genre or usability. And should happen soon after the decision to buy. When your customer is in the buying mood. So my first questions are... What type of a document did they recently purc...

Re: Advertorial Copy Review

Welcome back londonprince, I'm glad to see you're still in the copywriting game. Overall I'd say it looks like a pretty decent story for selling knee wraps. There's a couple things that jumped out at me right away that break the flow. Fixing them could make the story a bit smoother. I would swap the...

Re: What is the most important part to copywriting?

A lot of times I get bored doing research and want to get to the writing. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. Any tips or tricks to make research more interesting? Yeah that's a tough one Franklin, sometimes I get bored too. One thing that sometimes keeps me going is imagining I'm on ...

Well that's fair enough, a little of the old quid pro quo! Hey Chris, Thanks for the quid quo, you copywriting pro (Sorry, I know you like dreadful puns. But that was the best I could do on short notice 8-) ) I just checked out your site and I like your style. It has a certain "je ne sais quoi...

How to identify and write to the prospects biggest emotions and motivators

So I was just re-watching the 2nd Clayton Makepeace tribute video from this post - Clayton Makepeace Tribute And I thought I'd jot down a few notes to share with anyone who hasn't seen it yet... Within the first few minutes of the video my hand was already cramping from holding the pen too tight as ...

What part of my sales copy should I test first?

Some one asked me this question just the other day. They said were getting answers from other copywriters like "the headline is the most important" or the "call to action" or "the offer, the price, the P.S. , etc.". And I agree all of these things can and should be test...

Re: What is the most important part to copywriting?

Bonus Step. If it's possible buy the product and 3-5 competitor brands and use them. This is great tip. I always insist on using the product I'm selling. And I always study what the competition is doing with their marketing. But I never really thought about actually buying the competitors products....

Re: What is the most important part to copywriting?

Some advice is the same and some is opposite of other advice. Its very confusing to know what is right. Yes, unfortunately a lot of so called gooroos...

The Second Most Important Sentence In Sales Copy...

I think most of us would agree in copywriting our headline is the most important sentence we can write. Because if the headline doesn't get the attention of our most likely buyers, then the rest of the copy doesn't really matter too much, because nobody will ever read it anyway. And while our headli...
