Headline Lengths

In my experience, short headlines often work better. I guess it because they have a better chance of catching the short attention span of skimmers (especially in our ADHD society) But there's a caveat... We should never sacrifice clarity for brevity. If you can squeeze a curiosity factor, a little n...

The Power of Words...

I want you to think about words for a minute. I mean really think about them. Those symbols and vibrations that transmit an idea from one person to another. A message that flashes across your screen. A group of letters scribbled on a piece of paper, waiting to be decoded by anyone who understands wh...

Hey londonprince,

Welcome to the show.

Yes my friend, you are on the right track.

In fact, you're on the road least traveled by most new copywriters. Which already puts you ahead of the pack.

The Key to Great Copywriting

The-Key-to-Great-Copywriting.jpg Here's a lesson I learned about 20 years ago from one of the greatest copywriters who ever lived... Gary Halbert When I first learned this lesson it turned my entire world upside down. Because up until that point I was taught to be a great copywriter, we needed to b...

Re: copywriting course

We had a few courses set up when this site was on the old wordpress platform, but the strain on the shared server kept crashing the site.

I'll see if there's a way we can bring them back now that we're on a more stable forum platform.

Thanks for the suggestion :)

Re: Is this good copy? True Coolness Is Found In Jesus

Hi Mario, It's looking better. Now the next step in any good writing is to go back and edit what we've written. This is where we walk away from it, and let it sit for a day or two. Then we can come back and look at it with a fresh set of eyes. What we're looking for is any words we can delete, or an...

Re: Is this good copy? True Coolness Is Found In Jesus

Hey Mario, Welcome to the show... I see where you're going with this copy, and it's a decent first draft / brain dump (a brain dump is what I call it when we dump all our ideas on the page, so we can go back later to clean it up and edit it). What you have here is the raw skeleton of a good story. B...

Hi, I'm building an email marketing list by sending traffic to a landing page and collecting email addresses. I'm wondering how often I should email my list? Hard to answer without more details. What did people sign up for? If they signed up for a tip of the day or an offer of the day, then every d...

Cashvertising by Drew Whitman

Cashvertising by Drew Eric Whitman is another classic copywriting / advertising book. It's a fast paced book that digs deep into the consumer psychology behind creating a winning advertisement. I read it once a few years ago, and I just dug it out of my archives and started reading it again. Cashver...

Using Transubstantiation in sales copy

When it comes to copywriting I'm always interested in new and unusual ideas (as long as they actually make sense, and work). The other day I was hanging out at one of the other forums I sometimes visit, and a thread was started with the title "Using Transubstantiation In Your Sales Copy". ...

Re: Selling yourself as a beginner and building a portfolio

Hey TheCopyCat, That is great news. And 40 GBP (50 USD) per hour is very good pay for anyone just starting out. As for project working hours it's tough to say how you should calculate it for yourself. As you already noted, it's a different matter for everyone. It also depends on how familiar you are...
