A Persuasive Copy Technique That Makes You a More Effective Copywriter

Post by SARubin »

How is your sales copy working out for you?

Are you getting all the results you want to see?

If you’re not, then maybe this short post can help you get better results…

Writing effective sales copy – the kind that brings you solid returns – is one of the greatest challenges for many business owners, and many new copywriters too.

We might have a great product, at a great price… but it doesn’t matter how great our product or service is, if we can’t communicate it in a way that makes people want to buy from us, right?

So how do we make sure our sales copy delivers the best possible results?

Well, here’s one idea…

Persuasive Copywriting Technique #1:

Stick to only 1 big idea per message.

To be an effective copywriter, we need to be able to clearly present our message to our reader, because If they can’t keep up with what we’re saying then it’s not their fault… it’s our fault.

We’re paid to connect with our readers. It’s not their job to figure out what the hell we’re talking about… It’s our job to make it clear to them.

In today’s world, especially our digital world, it’s getting harder and harder to break through all the noise and advertising clutter in people’s daily lives. (of course every generation of advertisers has said the same thing, but this time it’s for real 😉 )

And one of the best ways to keep your message on track is to stay focused on a single idea in each piece of copy we write.

Because one good idea, clearly presented, is better than a hundred “average” ideas scattered about.

This idea has been around a long time, in fact here’s a quote from a few decades ago, from one of the greatest ad men who ever lived, David Ogilvy…

Truer words have not been spoken. When I look back at some of my own best performing copy, I notice most times the biggest winners we’re built around 1 main idea.

Part of the power of staying focused on one big idea, is it can help you build a compelling message that stirs one core emotion in your reader. And it helps direct your audience towards one inevitable conclusion (ideally the conclusion you want them have).

Anyway, somethin to think about when we sit down to write our next sales piece…
