Understanding Physical Therapy Billing Units

Post by isabelcardus »

Billing for physical therapy services can be a confusing process, especially when it comes to understanding how billing units are calculated. In most cases, billing is based on time, with units corresponding to 15-minute increments. However, certain non-timed services can also be billed using specific codes, regardless of the time spent. It’s essential to familiarize yourself with the 8-minute rule, which dictates that if a treatment lasts at least 8 minutes, it qualifies for a full 15-minute unit. Anyone have tips on how to streamline the process of tracking and billing these units more accurately? I'm particularly interested in software tools or methods to ensure we’re not leaving any revenue on the table.
